Dental Implants Dentist in San Jose and Sunnyvale

Even with a huge amount of progress in the field of dental sciences, tooth loss is still prevalent throughout the world. This occurs due to bad oral hygiene, tooth decay or a number of other reasons. Whatever the case, until a few years ago, the only treatment for missing teeth were bridges and crowns. Now, however, we have something called dental implants which is a huge improvement over the old scheme.

What are dental implants and why should you use them?

Dental implants are basically replacement tooth roots that provide a strong foundation for fixed or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth.

These implants come with a huge number of advantages which include a better appearance, improved speech, they are more comfortable, they ease chewing and are highly durable and convenient.

Why should you prefer dental implants over traditional methods?

Dental implants are much more convenient than crowns and bridges. They also have a very long age life when compared to the latter two. Moreover, generalizing the whole trend, we can observe that dental implants have a very high success rate of 98 percent as well.

How do implants work?

Implants generally fuse to your jawbone to provide stable and unwavering support for your artificial teeth. This is the main reason why they are much more convenient than bridges and crowns. According to the ADA, two types of implants are considered safe in practice. These are:

Endosteal implants: These are surgically implanted directly into the jawbone. Once the surrounding gum tissue has properly healed, another surgery is performed to connect a post to the original implant. Finally, an artificial tooth is attached to the post-individually or grouped on a bridge or denture.

Subperiosteal implants: These consist of a metal frame that is fitted onto the jawbone. The positioning is maintained just below the gum tissue. Over time as the gums heal, the frame becomes fixed to the jawbone. Posts, which are attached to the frame, protrude through the gums. Artificial teeth are then mounted to the posts.
